Cambridge Primary is the primary programme used by many international and private schools in Malaysia, for children aged about 5 to 11 across Stages 1 to 6. Schools choose their subjects from Cambridge's curriculum frameworks, most often English or English as a Second Language, Mathematics and Science.

At the end of Stage 6, schools may enter pupils for Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests, held in the March, May and October series. Results are reported as a score from 0 to 50 with a performance band, to show strengths and gaps before lower secondary. Online tuition at this age works best in short, small-group lessons with a parent nearby.

What is the difference between Cambridge Primary English and English as a Second Language?

English (0058) is for children who use English as a first language. English as a Second Language (0057) is for children who speak another language at home, and is based on the CEFR language levels. Ask your child's school which one they follow.

Is Cambridge Primary Checkpoint compulsory?

No. Schools decide whether to enter pupils. The tests are taken at the end of Stage 6 and give a 0–50 score and band per subject.
