About Cambridge Primary ESL

Cambridge Primary English as a Second Language (0057) is for children who speak another language at home, and is based on the CEFR language levels. It builds reading, writing, speaking and listening from Stage 1 to Stage 6, alongside the school's other subjects taught in English.

At the end of Stage 6, schools may enter pupils for the Primary Checkpoint ESL test in the March, May or October series, scored from 0 to 50 with a performance band. Short, regular lessons with plenty of speaking work best at this age.
