Bahasa Melayu is a core KSSR subject in every primary school. In SJKC and SJKT schools it is taught as a second language, and many families look for extra help with it. In Years 4 to 6 the school's end-of-year test (UASA) is one written paper of 50 marks in 1 hour 15 minutes: grammar and comprehension, a short critical or creative response, paragraph writing and an essay.
From 2026 the Year 4 Learning Matrix Bahasa Melayu paper follows the same structure. Good tuition builds vocabulary, sentence construction and essay writing step by step, and the tutor should know whether your child attends an SK, SJKC or SJKT school.
For Years 4 to 6, one written paper of 50 marks in 1 hour 15 minutes: multiple-choice grammar and comprehension (10 marks), a mixed section (10 marks), paragraph writing (10 marks) and an essay (20 marks).
